FRIDAY SPECIALITO

I’m sure you’re all wondering what’s with the yummy delicacies. Well, I sure didn’t start a secret food blog so just stay with me and find out.

Let’s have a quick journey down memory lane. Years back, I was the class teacher of these amazing class of children. I realised they were so talented so I thought to myself ” school isn’t limited to mathematics and English, who says we can’t have a talent show in class”. That’s how I dedicated Fridays for talent showcase.

Next section, I was assigned another amazing class of students to teach and because of the work load then we had to devise a way to ease the stress of school. We chose Wednesday afternoon for our play day ( I take them to the fields and they have 30 minutes to run around and play), I also realised they loved drama and that was how CLASSROOM MATTAZ came about. We started a short drama series and posted it on YouTube weekly.

Fast forward to the present. I realised my students don’t really like learning. If you use the normal classroom approach on them you might spend half of the day beating them and that’s not me.

I had to device a Friday specialito. I brought together various activities that would enhance learning even without them knowing learning is taking place. Let me take you through my Friday dish.

  • Student of the week: Every child loves been recognised for an outstanding performance and that’s where the competition comes in. Every Friday I choose one of my students and present to the rest as the student of the week. The best part is I usually have a gift for such student. Your guess is as good as mine. Now in a bid to win student of the week, they put in more efforts academically and also behave well.
  • Weekly competitions: Every Friday we must organise a competition in class. Mathematics quiz, spelling bee, talk show, debate and the likes. Now for their group to emerge the winner, they have to read and while reading they definitely would learn something new.
  • Accountability partners: I’m sure you’re familiar with this. If you aren’t then click the link below to read what it entails

I diligently cooked this Friday meal using the best of ingredients and now, my students love Friday more than every other days. It has become their Friday specialito!!!.

Do you also have a specialito?
