17th Wednesday , March, 2021 was no different from other days… I hope you didn’t believe that? It was totally different from other days. In the words of my beautiful and handsome students, it was a FUN DAY.
Prior to the d-day, I had already briefed my students on the activity for the next day. I grouped them into four groups and each group was required to bring items to sell and also make their own money.
Wednesday was a busy day for us. Each group had to set up their stall, attach prices to their wares and also get their money ready. I was the only buyer and that’s because I needed to monitor the whole process.
The aim of our market themed outdoor activity was to teach my students how to do mental calculations. It also was to teach them basic calculations in business.
The stalls were ready and each group had carefully arranged their wares and set to attend to customers. I also had my money, so I walked past each stall, making stops at a stall when I find an attractive item and eventually bought lots of items. One of the groups kept giving me the wrong change.
Me: Aunty you gave me the wrong change oo Student: Take it like that na Miss Dairo Me: No. I can't. I've been standing here for about 10 minutes. Your customer service isn't the best. I'm not buying again. Give me back my money. Student: I can't find your money. We don't know where we kept it. Me: Ah!!!!
Two groups had excellent customer service. They put the items I bought in a polythene bag and kept saying “thank you Ma for coming to our stall”. I was impressed.
When I was purchasing items from their stall, some started making a great noise and two students were arguing seriously. Me: Stop making noise and don't move out of your stall. Student: Miss Dairo this is market na. It's always noisy. You can't go to market and tell them to keep quiet. (Well, just picture me holding my chest) I didn't expect that reply.
After all purchases had been made. It was time for calculations. I told them to give me a total of items they brought out for sale, total of items that was sold and total of items left unsold. Check out the pictures below.
