Hello Friends (Yeah, that’s what we are!),
Recently, a post I made created a buzz of reactions on social media. I got messages asking that I share the detailed class on fractions. Here we are!

I need to state that I teach Year 2 which is a foundational stage for children and this plays a huge role in my lesson presentation.
Day 1:
I brought out my pizza and the atmosphere in class changed. Every child was so curious about what I wanted to do with a pizza.
Is it your birthday?
What are we celebrating?
The questions were endless 😂.
I asked them what shape is the pizza and they responded “Circle”. I then explained the concept of WHOLE to them.
The full pizza is WHOLE. WHOLE represents something that have not been divided. It is still in its normal form.
I them explained the concept of FRACTION using the pizza as a learning aid.
A fraction is part of a whole.

Still on Day 1, I explained half and quarter to them using the pizza, numbers, and shapes on the board.
Half is when something is divided into two equal parts.
Quarter is when you divide it into four equal parts.
Day 2:
We learned how to shade a fraction of a whole.

We also found half and one-quarter of the numbers. Since I did not want to start with the complex part, I explained these using grouping.

Since the first day, we have been brushing up on our multiplication table. They have become familiar with tables 1-4. This takes us to the next step.
Day 3:
We moved to the complex part but still found a way to simplify the process. They must be conversant with at least, multiplication tables 1-4.
Day 4:
We had our general assessment of what they learned from day 1. Next week, we would move to addition and subtraction of fractions 😀.

Thanks for reading! Do have a pizzalicious class 😁.
